	Abstract: Le corpus « Ambedkar » est un sous-ensemble du recueil de chants de la mouture collectés depuis plusieurs décennies par le Centre for Cooperative Research in Social Sciences (CCRSS, Pune, Inde). Dans ce projet, plus de 80 000 distiques ont été répertoriés sur la base de 3617 unités sémantiques, parmi lesquelles 113 sont en relation avec Ambedkar et/ou la communauté mahâr. L'homogénéité relative du groupe de locutrices a rendu possible un travail de terrain ciblé sur ce thème, aboutissant à un recueil presque exhaustif de 2239 distiques. Les textes des chants ont été transcrits en alphabet devanâgarî et devanâgarî romanisé, avec traductions en anglais et en français.La stabilité des distiques qui constituent le « texte de référence » des chants de la mouture contraste avec l'extrême variabilité de leur performance, laquelle ne se réduit pas à la juxtaposition du texte sur une mélodie arbitrairement choisie. La performance s'apparente à un processus narratif selon un parcours non-linéaire, multivoque par l'effet de « rhétoriques emmêlées ». L'article présente, de manière succinte à partir d'un exemple, l'exploitation du corpus pour l'analyse de techniques d'improvisation mélodique : intonation, rythme, ornementation.
